Skin Tag and Spot Removal Pre & Post Care

Mature woman gently massaging her face

We use CryoPen cryotherapy, diathermy, and targeted IPL or laser to treat suitable benign skin tags and spots. Every lesion is assessed first.

Before your treatment

  • Every lesion is assessed before treatment, and we only treat it if it is benign. If a lesion looks even slightly suspicious, you will need a skin check before it can be treated.
  • Avoid tanning and sun exposure on the area before your appointment.
  • Tell us about any medications (especially blood thinners), medical conditions, pregnancy, or a history of poor healing or keloid scarring.

On the day

  • Treatment is quick. With cryotherapy you may feel a brief cold sting; with diathermy, a brief heat or prickle.

After your treatment: the first 24–48 hours

  • The treated spot may be red, slightly swollen or blister a little. This is normal.
  • Keep the area clean and dry, and avoid makeup or skincare directly on the treated spot until it has healed.
  • Do not pick or scratch the treated area.

The following days and weeks

  • A small scab, crusting or temporary darkening may occur. Let any scab fall off naturally, which usually takes 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Protect the area from the sun with SPF 50+ once the skin has healed, to reduce the risk of pigment change.
  • If a treated spot comes back, changes or doesn't heal, see your GP or skin cancer clinic for a skin check.

When to contact us

  • Please contact us if you notice signs of infection, increasing pain or swelling, or a spot that isn't healing.
  • If you have severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, rapidly spreading swelling or a high temperature, call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department.
