Melasma Treatment in Canberra

Melasma can feel like a mask you never chose to wear. With patience and the right plan, your skin can look more even again.
Maybe it appeared during pregnancy and never left. Maybe it creeps back every summer, no matter how careful you are. Melasma is one of the most frustrating forms of pigmentation, because it's often hormonal, it's sensitive to heat and sun, and quick fixes can sometimes make it worse. If you've felt let down by products or treatments before, we understand.
At Skin Wellness Academy, we take a gentle, structured approach to melasma, choosing low-heat, clinician-guided options and pairing them with dedicated home care and protection.
What is melasma?
Melasma is a complex form of hyperpigmentation that appears as larger, often symmetrical brown or grey-brown patches, most commonly on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip and chin. It's frequently linked to hormonal changes, such as pregnancy or certain medications, and is made worse by sun exposure, heat and inflammation.
Because melasma is driven by factors inside and outside the skin, it needs long-term management rather than a one-off treatment.
Common triggers
- Hormonal changes, including pregnancy and some medications.
- Sun exposure, including everyday incidental sun.
- Heat, such as saunas, hot yoga and hot kitchens.
- Inflammation, including irritation from harsh products or treatments.
- Genetics.
