Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment in Canberra
Stubborn pigmentation and melasma can be frustrating, especially when creams and quick fixes haven't worked. Our Cosmelan depigmentation programme at Skin Wellness Academy in Canberra is a structured, clinician-guided journey that combines in-clinic treatment with a dedicated home-care routine.
What is the depigmentation programme?
It's a guided journey for pigmentation, not a one-off treatment. It combines the professional in-clinic Cosmelan 1 mask with a prescribed Mesoestetic home-care routine and regular reviews, so your clinician can monitor your progress and adjust your routine along the way. It's suitable for all pigment types and skin tones.
Who it suits
The programme may suit you if you have:
- Stubborn pigmentation or uneven skin tone.
- Melasma.
- Sun damage or dark spots that haven't responded to other approaches.
- Pigmentation of any type, on any skin tone.
A consultation is required before you start, so your clinician can confirm the programme suits your skin and your goals.
What to expect
- Suitability consultation: we assess your pigmentation, skin condition and contributing factors, and explain the protocol, home care and expected progression, before confirming the programme suits you.
- In-clinic treatment: your clinician applies the professional Cosmelan 1 mask in the clinic.
- At home, same day: you leave wearing the mask and keep it on at home for the time your clinician prescribes (usually about 8 to 12 hours), misting it regularly so it doesn't dry out or crack. You then gently remove it with tepid water. An old face cloth helps, because the mask can stain fabric.
- Ongoing home care and reviews: you follow a prescribed Mesoestetic home-care routine to support pigment regulation, with scheduled reviews so your clinician can adjust it as your skin responds.
Your clinician will explain the full journey and what to expect at each stage before you begin.
Concerns it can help
- Pigmentation: stubborn pigmentation, melasma and uneven tone.
- Ageing: sun damage and age spots.
- Dull, dry and dehydrated skin: skin that looks uneven and lacks radiance.
Aftercare
The first week can be quite active.
- Days 1 to 2: after the mask is removed, expect moderate to strong redness, significant tightness, warmth, sensitivity, mild swelling and itchiness.
- Days 3 to 7: your skin commonly becomes very dry, flaky and peeling. This is an important part of the process. Don't pick, pull or peel shedding skin.
- After the first week: your skin gradually becomes calmer and more comfortable, and you continue your prescribed home-care programme.
Hydrate, soothe, protect, repeat:
- Mist your skin regularly, apply your prescribed hydrating products, use clinician-approved hydrating sheet masks generously, keep cool, drink plenty of water, and never let your skin become excessively dry.
- Use only your prescribed Mesoestetic products unless your clinician advises otherwise. Avoid scrubs, manual exfoliation, AHAs, BHAs, retinoids and other resurfacing actives unless they're part of your programme.
- Avoid direct sun and apply your prescribed Mesoestetic SPF every day.
- Avoid excessive heat, heavy exercise and sweating, heated yoga, spas and saunas, very hot showers and baths, and chlorinated pools while healing. Heat may need to be avoided for up to 2 weeks, depending on how your skin heals.
- Avoid waxing and threading the treated area for about 4 weeks, and don't have other dermal treatments unless your clinician approves them.
Results vary with the type and depth of pigmentation, hormones, sun exposure, home-care consistency and how your skin responds. Pigmentation needs ongoing protection and maintenance.
Our approach
Every treatment at Skin Wellness Academy is part of the Skin Transformation System, our four-phase framework for holistic and clinical skin care. It integrates the best of Western scientific research, Eastern medicine and integrative wellness philosophy. It also looks at your biology, behaviour, goals and habitat to find the root causes of your skin concerns.
You're not just another patient in a clinic. Our dermal clinicians guide you through each phase of your skin journey:
- Strategy: understand your skin, history, lifestyle and goals.
- Rebuild: restore skin barrier, strength and healthy function.
- Regenerate: stimulate healthy cellular renewal.
- Maintain: protect results and age gracefully.
The strongest treatment is not always the best treatment. The right treatment is the one your skin is ready to use well. That's why all new clients begin with a Skin Strategy Session. Until we've properly assessed you and your skin, we can't recommend the best products, routine or treatments for you.
