IPL Skin Rejuvenation in Canberra
Sun damage, pigmentation and redness can make skin look uneven and tired. IPL skin rejuvenation at our Canberra clinic improves skin tone, clarity and radiance, and treats the face and body areas that show sun damage most.
What is IPL?
Our Alma IPL Skin Rejuvenation uses Harmony XL PRO IPL technology. IPL (intense pulsed light) delivers broad-spectrum light into the skin to target sun damage, pigmentation and redness, and to stimulate collagen. For pigmentation, it helps break down excess melanin for a more even tone. We also offer targeted IPL or laser treatments for:
- Pigment spots: targeted hyperpigmentation and sunspot reduction. Every spot is assessed first; if it looks even slightly suspicious, a skin check will be required before treatment.
- Visible vessels: Alma IPL vessel removal.
Who it suits
IPL may suit you if you have:
- Sun damage.
- Pigmentation, superficial pigmentation, sunspots or uneven colour.
- Redness or visible vessels, including redness associated with rosacea.
- Skin that looks dull and lacks clarity.
Treatment areas include the face, neck, chest, arms and hands. Your clinician will check that IPL suits your skin type at your consultation.
Before your treatment
- Avoid tanning, fake tan and significant sun exposure for 2 weeks beforehand.
- Avoid retinol, exfoliants, acids and active skincare for 3 to 5 days beforehand.
- Keep your skin hydrated, and arrive with clean skin and no fake tan.
- Tell us about recent procedures, skin sensitivity, cold sores or medications.
What to expect
Your skin is prepared before treatment with active skin care and/or LED. During treatment, your clinician applies pulses of light to the treatment area. Afterwards, you may feel mild warmth or pinkness, and pigmented spots may temporarily darken before clearing. A course may be recommended, depending on your concerns. IPL can also be combined with laser in our Alma Laser + IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatment, as recommended by your clinician.
Concerns it can help
- Pigmentation: breaks down excess melanin for a more even tone and targets sunspots.
- Skin redness and vascularity: targets redness and visible vessels, and can help manage the appearance of rosacea.
- Ageing: stimulates collagen and improves tone and radiance.
- Dull, dry and dehydrated skin: improves clarity and radiance.
How it feels
Alma Dye SR uses in-motion delivery and a cooling tip to keep treatment more comfortable.
Aftercare
Redness, warmth and mild swelling are common. Treated pigmentation may darken, turn grey or look more noticeable before it lifts. This is a normal part of the treatment response. Mild stinging or sensitivity can occur for the first few hours, and some areas may look lightly bruised while they heal. Results develop gradually over the following days to weeks.
- Use cool compresses or a refrigerated soothing gel if needed.
- Keep your skin calm, hydrated and protected. Use gentle skincare and SPF 50+ daily.
- Avoid heat, exercise, hot showers, saunas and friction until your skin settles.
- Don't pick, scratch or exfoliate treated areas. Avoid direct sun and protect your skin carefully.
- For 2 weeks, avoid: AHA, BHA and other exfoliating acids; retinoids and vitamin A; harsh actives and scrubs; benzoyl peroxide; peels and microdermabrasion; and chlorinated pools while healing.
Our approach
Every treatment at Skin Wellness Academy is part of the Skin Transformation System, our four-phase framework for holistic and clinical skin care. It integrates the best of Western scientific research, Eastern medicine and integrative wellness philosophy. It also looks at your biology, behaviour, goals and habitat to find the root causes of your skin concerns.
You're not just another patient in a clinic. Our dermal clinicians guide you through each phase of your skin journey:
- Strategy: understand your skin, history, lifestyle and goals.
- Rebuild: restore skin barrier, strength and healthy function.
- Regenerate: stimulate healthy cellular renewal.
- Maintain: protect results and age gracefully.
The strongest treatment is not always the best treatment. The right treatment is the one your skin is ready to use well. That's why all new clients begin with a Skin Strategy Session. Until we've properly assessed you and your skin, we can't recommend the best products, routine or treatments for you.
