Cosmetic Tattoo Pre & Post Care

Close-up of eyes and eyebrows with cosmetic brow tattoo by Sep Ashkani

Cosmetic tattoo with Sep Ashkani of Lashkani covers brows, lip blush and liner, eyelash enhancement and decorative eyeliner. Here is how to prepare and how to care for your cosmetic tattoo while it heals.

Before your treatment

  • Cosmetic tattoo isn't suitable during pregnancy.
  • There's no minimum age, but clients under 18 need parental consent.
  • Please tell us about any medications, any illness in the last 6 months, and any acne medications or creams used in the last 6 months.
  • If you are having your lips done and have a history of cold sores, tell Sep when you book, as lip tattoo can trigger a flare.
  • Avoid tanning, sunburn, and peels, retinol or exfoliating acids on the area for 2 weeks beforehand.
  • Avoid waxing, tinting or threading the brows for a week before a brow appointment.
  • For eyeliner or lash enhancement, don't wear eye makeup or lash extensions to the appointment.

On the day

  • Your first appointment usually includes your consultation and design. Sep chooses a colour to suit your hair and skin and draws in the shape, and won't begin until you're happy with both. Allow about 2 to 2.5 hours.
  • All cosmetic tattoo treatments need two sessions so enough pigment is held in the skin. Sep will let you know when to book your second appointment (the top-up).

After your treatment: the first 24–48 hours

  • Follow the aftercare Sep gives you.
  • Keep the area dry for 5 to 7 days.
  • Don't touch, rub or pick the area, and don't apply makeup or skincare to it.
  • Avoid saunas, swimming, heavy sweating and direct sun while it heals.

The following days and weeks

  • Allow about a week for healing. Light flaking is normal; let it come away naturally.
  • The colour can look stronger at first and soften as it heals.
  • Sun, salt water, chlorine, glycolic acid and peels can fade or change the colour of cosmetic tattoo. Use SPF on the area once healed.
  • If you're having IPL or laser at Skin Wellness Academy, always tell your clinician about your cosmetic tattoo, because laser can darken some cosmetic tattoo pigments.
  • A colour boost is recommended every 12 to 18 months to refresh colour, shape and definition.

When to contact us

  • Please contact us if you notice increasing redness, swelling or pain, pus, or signs of infection.
  • If you have severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, rapidly spreading swelling or a high temperature, call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department.

Call us on 0481 300 574 or email info@skinwellnessacademy.com.
